Yesterday we talked about my 3 favorite tips to adding some systems & automation to your life so you can have less stress. But in our free automation & systems challenge group yesterday I did a live video and we talked about a ton more, so much so that I thought I’d share a few MORE favs on the blog again today!
Remember y’all…this week we’re blogging through my new Skillshare class on this very topic! There are about 20 free spots left using this link so go sign up now before they’re gone! (Ps. The class is only about 30 mins long, super quick & helpful!)
#1 FAV thing to help automate “adulting” stuff….ROBOT vacuum!
Currently it’s $174.99, I believe it was a little cheaper when we got it a month ago or so maybe check back in with prices on occasion but truly, I couldn’t live without this thing anymore! Sadly I shed hair way more than the dog does but while we sleep this little guy goes around our house (except our bedroom that has lovely wall-to-wall shag carpeting, renters probs!) and cleans it all! I love waking up to a clean house (well, floors that allow me to walk barefoot finally!) and we also tidy before bed so Wallie doesn’t try to eat any dog toys or chargers. Amazing!
And once a week Wallie gets switched to “mop mode” and acts like a Swiffer wet jet kinda mop and cleans the house with a little bit of warm water, vinegar and a drop or two of essential oils to disinfect, deep clean (or at least deep clean in my terms! ha!) and make the house smell like amazingness!
I seriously, seriously recommend trying one love! You don’t need to invest in the super expensive ones, I remember seeing the $400-500 ones at Target when I grocery shop and thinking “maybe I’ll put it on my Christmas list one day…” but then randomly checking Amazon one day to see what else was out there and found many “off brands” for anywhere from $99 to $300. So there are options that are semi-affordable, and considering I now only spend about 20 mins a week cleaning now, and a load or two of laundry, it’s worth it rather than spending at least 20 minutes a day swiffering, vacuuming, etc!
Okay…I will stop my love letter to Wallie now, but seriously, go grab one loves, or at least put it on your holiday lists!!
#2 – Mint & Mint Bills Apps
You may already use Mint as a budget app or just a “check in” app with where your bank accounts and finances are at. Which I LOVE becuase we don’t really strict budget because thats never worked for us, but we love to sort of make it a game. Like lets see if we can spend less on eating out than last month, or let’s see if we can keep our household budget under $250 this month! (Instead of our normal $300.)
Mint Bills is new-ish and something I’m just setting up because I can now get notifications for bills instead of just having them emailed through a Google Cal alert, but I can also pay with 2 clicks! Instead of having to log in online on my laptop…etc. Maybe you already use apps for your finances so things are fairly easy, GREAT! But for me, these two are just awesome! I literally just log into each about once a week and see where the numbers stand and then keep going with my day! This means we probably spend less than an hour on our finances each month, including our money date, rather than 1+ a week previously. Hallelujah!
#3 – Qapital app for more money automation!
Again, totally LOVE this app! I’ve been obsessed with this for a few months now. Honestly, I’d probably delete the mint apps before I’d delete this one! Qapital allows you to set tons of rules around saving money. There is a “round up rule” where you’re essentially saving the “change” on your debit card transactions. There’s also a “freelancer” rule where you can save a percentage of each deposit (you can set a minimum amount for deposits) and several others like the “52 week savings challenge” that floats around Pinterest a lot.
We use this for a tithing/charity % rule on all deposits over $50 or $100 I think…we also do a the round up rule for Christmas! We also set a really large percentage to pay ourselves from our bigger paychecks, etc. It’s awesome! All automatic and it’s “smart”, meaning it’ll notice patterns in your accounts so it won’t overdraw your accounts. Plus it is FDIC insured like a normal bank, it’s just online!
I do realize I could do very similar things just with normal banking accounts, and we did for a long time. But we decided to make the switch to Qapital because it’s “smarter” than our normal bank accounts. We can set up many different rules, plus the app is VISUAL and I am a highly visual person, so it is 1000xs more motivating to me to see our goals linked up with a good photo and some Emojis. Vain…probably…silly…sure! But it works for us really well, so go check it out!
#4 – Subscribe and Save programs!
We are just getting into this game because I just learned last week that Target has their own version of Amazon’s subscribe and save! yay! We personally find that Amazon doesn’t always have the products we actually like to use, and/or they are WAY more than local stores so it’s not really worth it. Also I cannot get the “prime shipping trick” from Lifehacker to work…so maybe at a later date? But it’s of course a great option to look into! Even just ask yourself “what’s the top 3 things we always seem to be running out of that make me need to run to the store randomly?!” For us, coffee, almond milk + creamer. But also TP or paper towels too. At least 3 of those can be found as part of a subscribers program through Amazon, Target, Thrive Market, Vitacost, etc.
Even if this just saves you one extra trip to the store every two weeks, that’s 25 hours roughly…almost another week of work you could get in! PLUS how much money can you save by not grabbing random things on that one trip too?! Worth it? Probably!
Two more things to note about this, if you love to shop at Target, or even Sam’s club, both have apps where you can basically order ahead and just pick it up once you get to the store. I’ve used Sam’s club “pull program” for years and it’s really helpful, especially when it’s cold in the winter months! I just basically order online or through the app the things I need and then just pick it up at the front desk, swipe my card and head out! Saves me all the walking & browsing and potentially buying stuff we don’t need!
The second thing is the huge popularity around meal subscription boxes like Green Chef or something like that. If you’re into it, go for it love! However, we’ve found that those boxes are around $300 a month, and they only include 3-4 dinners for 2 people each week…AND my hubs always says they sound like “fru-fru” meals! Ha! So we haven’t gone that route yet. Honestly, we just follow these tips, and the tips I shared yesterday and keep our meal plans SUPER simple. That way we tend to spend around $300 a month on ALL household stuff, including groceries, cleaning supplies, TP, dog food, etc. Definitely worth it for us to skip those – if you’d like some help with really quick & simple meals, just email me and I’ll send you my fav tips! If you love meal subscriptions boxes, yay love!! Keep rocking them!
#5 – Pet supplies!
Similar to #4, but really, this one seems to be the reason of a lot of “random trips” for us too! Mia has been super picky and weird about food thus far, but once we find stuff she likes we’ll be putting it on subscription through Target or Chewy.com, along with her favorite treats too!
#6 – Swagbucks as a search engine!
Okay, not super important as a system or automation tip, but, you’re on your laptop or other devices HOURS a day right? Why not earn some free giftcards while you do it? I set my main search to be through this app and usually earn about $5 to Amazon each month, not a huge deal but hey, it’s a free Kindle book! You’re basically just finding another way to pay yourself for something you do all the time anyway, which is a “rewards system” in my book! ha!
I’m going to end this list here because I could truly go on forever! haha!! BUT as always, if you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me, or come join the free group for this week’s automation and systems tips to ask them directly! And get bonus tips that I don’t include in the blog series!
with love & blessings,
