As I’m writing this, E & I are both at the dining room table after dinner “working” – he’s doing some teachery thing, and I’m avoiding finishing my taxes (#sorrynotsorry) ha! But in my random stumbles online in between doing semi-productive things, I’ve come across several blogs, Instagram accounts, even just Pinterest boards that showcased amazing people, doing amazing things. The thing is, they’re all doing a bunch of seemingly random, yet amazing things. I actually saw a photograph by one of these people and it just made me CRY. They wrote very well, they had multiple businesses, including one centered around photography & videography, but they didn’t just do ONE “niche” (y’all know by now that that’s a swear word in my house! 😉 they did landscapes, product photos for companies, and paid portrait work, as well as videography for companies too! Plus a print shop, and other amazing work I came across….and to be honest, I was in absolute tears at the beauty of how God creates us, calls us & equips us!
Y’all seriously… I’m a cryer…anyway, my point here is that we SO freakin’ often put ourselves in a box, or better yet let someone else “prescribe” a box to us, and we stick with it like GLUE. It’s similar to how we often put God in a box based on how we experienced Him growing up. If it’s bad to put God in a box…then why are we thinking it’s “normal” to put ourselves in one?! Helloooo! We are created in His image after all!
Here’s the thing love, as much as I adore talking about purpose and calling, at the end of the day, it doesn’t create a box for you! The entire core of that is being in alignment with God and following Him!
(Or whatever you believe spiritually is cool too, but I chat about God & the Bible here, so if you’ve got questions or concerns, email me!)
Finding your calling & living your purpose is just as much of a messy journey as anything worthwhile is, marriage, motherhood, even our walks with God! It’s not something that you beat your head against your Macbook for for months on end, and then finally shout “EUREKA!” when you finally craft your perfect “purpose statement” and then ride off into the sunset never having another moment of confusion, fear, doubt, etc. You’ll also never feel God calling you to do something a little offbeat, because you’ve got your calling, your pretty little purpose statement and your “box” is now SET for LIFE ‘yo!
I’m so sorry love…I’ve tried that. It sucks the life out of you, and that’s not how it really is! As much as we sometimes wish it was that cut and dry, or black and white, it’s definitely not. Not even close! It’s a big ol’ mess of things, and this is what we do in Confidence & Calling – we think of it kinda like cooking, it’s looking at what you’ve got in your theoretical pantry & fridge, and then making a great dinner from it tonight, and seeing what else you may be able to make later on too. Maybe it’s the same “dinner” for a long time, and maybe it varies sooner rather than later, or rotates even. I don’t know the answer for you, and honestly, God typically only gives us glimpses anyway. So if you’re a “same dinner” kinda entrepreneur, celebrate how God made you love! If you’re more of a varied or rotating “dinner” kinda boss lady, celebrate that too! You were made in His image, you were made to create, and don’t you forget it! There’s mystery in it, sure. But there’s also beauty, purpose, passions and provision in you as well love, let that out and let it SHINE!
I’m going to leave you with two amazing things today for your weekend reading & “chewing” on (ha, I love the theme going here!)
Bravery used to mean independence… it meant chasing dreams in my own strength. Now it means surrender. Leaning into Jesus for strength & believing that His plan is bigger than what is seen. Because trusting that He will open the exact doors I should walk through, guiding my feet each step of the way… that’s the kind of brave I want to be. -Caroline Logan
