Being honest with my burnout with family, friends & biz friends was honestly really hard for me to do! I hated to admit it! I’m stubborn like that! 😉
I love that I started this post on July 1st, that dreaded Q3/half way point of the year that often makes us feel like we’re not enough as entrepreneurs. We see the goals left untouched. We see SO much left to do. And so much more.
Believe me, I struggle with that “not enough” feeling almost every day. Honestly one of THE biggest issues for me! And a huge piece of this burnout pie that I’m healing!
Yet yesterday I can honestly say went well in that “mid-year checkup” category. I’m not fully done that checkup yet, but I realized that this whole year my theme was “rebuilding”, and that we’ve done loves…more than I could imagine!
I read through my old goals posts + workbook pages from the first of the year. I laughed quite a bit. But I also had some grateful tears because my word, the first 6 months of this year were TOUGH. But, the rebuilding has worked wonders!
I can finally say I’m about halfway out of this burnout woods. And I finally (finally!!!) have action plans in place for the business things I’ve always wanted to launch and didn’t have the mental space to do, among other things. Phew! God is good y’all!
But, none of this would have happened without some perspective shifts.
A big one was surrendering my business, my calling, purpose and pretty much everything (because I didn’t do it before) to God. That may not really be an action step for you, your beliefs may be different, and that’s okay! It’s just the first action step I had to take.
Secondly, I had to realize goals are not the be-all-to-end-all. That 6-figure mark, that 5k followers on Instagram, etc. I had to really, really work with myself to let it sink in that the goal is truly my relationships. With God, with loved ones, with clients & students & readers. The goal itself is truly LIFE because life is a gift. (Sorry if that sounds cheesy or woo-woo, it’s just my honest opinion! ha!)
I also had to do a LOT of deep digging on habits, both personal and business, over the last few years. That’s digging up a lot of dirt on myself, so it was NOT easy! 😉 I got whiny a lot. But I really learned to take a good hard look at things. I still had SO many “shoulds” rolling around in my head that were sucking the life right out of me. Sucking the creativity + innovation right out of me, which are integral to my business! (Hello…wakey wakey me!)
It’s pretty much a process that I need to work on continuously, but I’m definitely at a good place right now. I poured over the time wasters and energy “leeches” in all areas of life, and really applied the good ‘ol 80/20 rule to pretty much everything!
I’ve done a lot of work to restructure business things, simplify pieces of my life that I’d gotten lazy in (hello decluttering!) or places I just had too many “shoulds” to see that things could actually be greatly improved!
What does this look like for business stuff?
Well for starters, it looks like NO blogging, at least for now! Cannot believe it, because I’ve been blogging at least monthly at all of my businesses since I first took my jewelry biz online around 16 or 17 years old! BUT, I’ve found that it’s not serving everyone in that win-win-win philosophy type of way that I must hold as a priority or it drains me too much.
But this means that social media will be picking up at a higher speed, with more fun things involved, and over time, a lot more fun freebies, challenges and other things to help you pick up speed in your business too!
I’ll definitely still be sending out monthly-ish emails. So make sure you’ve signed up for the freebies to keep getting the “love notes”!
Try it for yourself love! It can make SUCH a difference, I pinky promise!
*Try making a list of everything you currently do in business, and see what is life giving to you, what actually makes you a decent amount of money for the time/energy and what helps you grow your audience well. Then work to cut out some of the tasks that didn’t make that list!
*What things are you currently avoiding like the plague? Business or life stuff? Maybe it’s laundry (yup, one of mine!) or household shopping (ditto!) or social media marketing consistently. See what you can outsource for a reasonable price (we often hire out laundry for about $15-20 a week. SO worth it!) Can you hire a VA? Can you just create a purposeful system that cuts down your hours spent on that topic?
Maybe set aside an hour to go sit outside at a coffee shop with an iced coffee + brainstorm 20 Facebook posts, then schedule them in CoSchedule, Buffer or straight to Facebook. Boom. Fun + productive, with less stress!
Lets really focus on doing less, but with more heart!
(And no, this does NOT mean you need to “pick one thing”! Hell no! #multipassionatesunite ;))
Any questions? Need some help with this in your own business? As always, just shoot me an email! I’ll get back to you asap!
Truly, thank y’all so much for your support over the years! I’m SO looking forward to new ways to work together and ways I can offer tips, tricks and stories in a more personal and helpful way!
With love & blessings,
